First Hit - V day

Valentine's Day
The First "Hit"
I wanted to see what was underneath the soffits (Is that how you spell it?) in the kitchen. I think taking the sophets out will make the kitchen feel bigger. The soffets were built above the kitchen cabinets because originally the ceiling was supposed to be lower. As the house was built, they decided to keep the ceiling taller and put in sophets to take care of the gap between the cabinets and the ceiling. They are basically a framed in box with dry wall. Eric took the first one down on Valentine's Day. That marks the first step toward our house remodel. The next day, I began ripping off the wallpaper.

The Beginning

My husband Eric and I purchased a home the first week of February, 2010. Not just any home, but a house built by his parents in the late 70's. We like the home for many different reasons. Here are a couple: First, it sits on a 1 acre lot along with an orchard of macademia nuts. Second, the house has a good sized kitchen and a spacious family room with a large fireplace.
Before we purchased the house, a lot of time was spent praying. We wanted to make sure that we were doing what God had intended. There are many factors involved in this process and I intend to journal the steps of our growth, the changes in our new home, and hopefully the before and after successes.

The PLAN: To remodel our new home in a timely manner with our specific budget.

Time Line: We hope to move in after about 3 months of remodel and construction. (May-June)

Focus: New kitchen, new floors, new air conditioning/heating, new paint, new moldings, new staircase... just to name a few.
